The fund PWC started the program of searching for and helping Jewish orphan children in Ukraine in 2004. We thought we would be able to find only one or two orphans. But life showed that a lot more Jewish orphans needed help.

At first we helped them with clothes and footwear, presented them toys. But it appeared the children were longing for more. They desperately needed attention. Children loved the atmosphere of a warm caring home the PWC staff created for them. At first we just asked them to have a cup of tea with us. We noticed that sweets we gave them were rare for those children. And children themselves were asking: "When will you invite us next time?"
We expanded our program inviting them for charity dinners on Purim, Chanukah, Rosh-ha-Shana and other Jewish holidays.
Children were just happy!
When we rented for them bright masquerade costumes and invited them for a theatrical Purim-spiel, children were amazed! Orphan children, lacking attention from their own parents (due to different tragic or dramatic lifes situations), those children liked being the centre of attention. And it filled their hearts with bliss and gratitude.
But besides the momentary, everyday attention, those children needed another kind of help.Their future in Ukraine was rather problematic. And it could be only the Land of Israel where they were able to receive what they needed for their personality and also be supported and secured by the state.
Yet, the most important fact was that they would grow up feeling proud of their Chosen people and the country they lived in Israel. Gathering and preparation of the documents for each of those who left for Israel is another story full of tears, despair and fulfilled hopes. These are dramatic stories with happy endings.
